PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious trophy on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

Yet, Marseille struck twice late to take a surprise advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
